Thank you for your subscription to North of the Blue the only key you will ever need to stock analysis. Here is the information you need to download your North of the Blue Program and to set it up on your computer. Please note that this applies to all subscription levels as well as those using our free trial subscription. Just make the appropriate changes below.
Caution: Those downloading their free trial subscription should download Level A or VISTA.
We will email you your Activation Key. Please note that the first 10 spaces of the key contain only alphabetical characters or dashes. The final four spaces contain only numerals. For example, Keith Eierson's Activation Key might be: EIER-KEIT-9999. Caution, the segment "EIER" has only the first four letters of Mr. Eierson's last name and the segment "KEIT" contains only the first four letters of the name "Keith". There is no number one in the either "EIER" or "KEIT" segment. Numbers are put only in the last segment where you will often see "9999", i.e. four nines.
Here are the download and installation directions. Don’t let them intimidate you; downloading the program takes only about 5 minutes. Please call or email us if you have any questions or problems.
Before you start these steps please make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. The program will not install correctly if you are not connected to the Internet.
- From
the main menu of North of the Blue, www.northoftheblue.com,
select menu option “Download” and
then click on the subscription you purchased, e.g. “Download Level A”. Remember, to use the free trial subscription you should download Level A.
- NOTE: If you are using Windows VISTA operating system, please click on the download selection "Download VISTA". Now use the directions below.
- Next you will see a small window called “File Download – Security Warning Do you want to
run or save this file NorthoftheBlue_A1.exe.exe?” If you down load North of the Blue for Vista this will read StockChartsProdVISTA.exe.exe. Click on the “Run” button.
- Next you get a window called “Internet Explorer Security Warning. The publisher could not be verified …”
Click on the “Run” button.
- The
next window is “WinZip Self Extractor Window”. Check that the folder to which the
program will unzip is “C:\NOTB_A\”.
The final letter represents the level you purchased so it can be A,
B or C. If you are using the trial program, you will need to unzip the file to “C:\NOTB_A\”. Click on the ‘Unzip”
button.
- This
will give you a window telling you that several files have been unzipped
successfully. Click on the “Okay”
button.
- Now
click on Start use "My Computer", go to /Local Disk (C:) and then to the folder "NOTB_A".
- Now
right click on the file NorthoftheBlue_A1.exe or the program StockChartsProdVISTA.exe and select “Create Shortcut” .
- This
creates a new file that is named "Shortcut to NorthoftheBlue_A.exe. Drag this folder to the Window’s desktop
and rename it as you like. (To rename the program highlight the program and press "F2" or put your cursor on the program name so that it is highlighted and then right click your mouse. Type in whatever title you want and press "Enter".)
- Close
the “My Computer” screen.
- Rename the shortcut to something like "North of the Blue" or another name that will allow you to keep track of what the shortcut is for.
- Double
click on the shortcut you just created to start the programming.
A note of caution here: Your security software may not allow North of the Blue’s programming to send and receive data to and from our server. Please tell your security program that this data exchange is okay.
If you are a new subscriber, you will need to set up the North of the Blue programming.
INSTALLATION OF NORTH OF THE BLUE
- Double
click on the shortcut you just created.
- A
screen will open called “NOTB Software License Agreement”. Read the agreement and then click on
“Yes, I agree”.
- The
next screen will prompt you for your Activation Key. Enter the Activation Key above in
capital letters and then click on the “Log On” button. You will only have to enter the
Activation Key the first time you use North of the Blue.
- You
may find an “Error 8” displayed.
This occurs when North of the Blue cannot communicate with our
server. Please adjust your security
software to allow our programming to exchange data with our server.
- Double
click again on the shortcut.
- Now
click on the “Log On” button on North of the Blue’s logon screen.

If you would like to come to one of our on site tutorials at our office, please email us with the best dates and times in January for you to do this. We have found that a one hour session in which we walk you through the basics of North of the Blue and do a serious question and answer program will get you up and running quicker and easier. During January there will be no charge for these classes. Starting in February the classes will cost $25 per subscriber. No, there is no extra charge if a subscriber brings along a husband, wife or significant other.
